Before I came to Canada, I was studying in China for a long time. I could that there
was a big difference between study in ELT and china. Which one is better, in depend on
you. I have two opinions about it.
First, it is cost. Of cause study in ELI must be more expensive than China; also it has a
better environment. You can use the computer in ELI when ever you need. Students study
in a small group, so teachers can pay more attention in every student.
Scent, you have more pressure in china compare in ELI. You just have 5.5hours class
time and you have 2days for holiday every week. In china, you have 7hours every day
and you just have a day for holiday every for most middle school and high school
students.
They have their different advantages. It is more fun and relaxes study in ELI. It is
difficult study in china, but you will have more motility. Even it is expensive, Whatever;
I like study in ELI than China.

Study at 420W
so far, I have been study at ELI 420W course 3 months, there were a lot of funny things in our class, but the most important thing is that we learned how to writing an essay in English. That is very useful in our life.
At begining of class, teacher teach us what is the different between paragraph and essay. That's let me konw what is the real essay. When I was at China high school I have been written many things in English what I think was essay, but after that class I find that's just a long paragraph. In our class we also talk to each other, change our ideal and make the essay more and more clearness.
Also I want talk sometings about our textbook. This book is very useful book. There are 6 units in the book. You can learn how to writing a good essay. For example in the unit 4 opinion essays we learn which is fact or opinion. When we enter the University, writing essay is a indispensability thing. So we learn it not only for examination but also for our life.

Difficult Decisions To Study English (Yayoi)
I spent almost a year on deciding to study English at the ELI. I was working as a physiotherapist in Japan before I came to Vancouver. I had to decide various things to change my life. Some decisions were easy, but most decisions were difficult for me.
The easiest decision was to decide a study place because some friends who had lived abroad recommended me go to Vancouver. After I visited Vancouver to see the sights last year, I decided to come here. I convinced that Vancouver was the best place for me to live abroad for the first time because it was safe and not busy city and also people were kind.
The most difficult decision was to make my goal clear. At first, my purpose to go abroad was enjoying living abroad as I was a little bit tired from my job and wanted to do another job for a while using working holiday visa; for example, I planed to go to the ESL school, work for a farm and travel around Canada. However, as a result of thinking again and again and talking with people with experience of living overseas, I changed my mind and found another purpose to focus on improving my English skills. I have a dream to take a doctorate in physical therapy overseas in the future. Finally, I made up my mind to study academic English and applied for a student visa for Canada.
The last decision was to choose a school. I decided to go to the ELI promptly for two reasons. The first reason was that my friend recommended me strongly. Most students studying abroad go to private ESL schools downtown, but I think that the ELI has some advantages which they do not have. For example, we can study with a well-balanced curriculum, always talk with English speakers, who are CAs, and relax on UBC campus surrounded by wonderful nature. Another reason was that UBC has the department of physical therapy, which is my major. I wanted to know Canadian education of physical therapy. I have visited the building once, but I have never asked people in the department. I am thinking to visit the department again and ask someone by the end of this session. Unfortunately, I do not continue the next session at the ELI because I have the next purpose. I will change the school which has medical English course and internship course at hospital or rehabilitation centre.
Now, I have a great time, even though it took me a long time to decide my plan. I study hard on weekdays while I hang out with my new friends on weekends. I am satisfied with my new life. I have only three more weeks at the ELI, but I hope my English skills will upgrade as much as possible.

different types of learner (Phoebe Chang)
There are many different types of learner. When we study, we all chose the one that we like. In my opinion, every way about learning is sensational. If we are hard, we can get the good score.
I like to study alone, and I like to take note during the lecture. I always spend lots of time to study at home and deliberate. I think it is homey way for study. To be honest, this is a very slow way to study, it’s hard, but it work so slow.
I have some friends, they told me about their method of study. One boy told me he doesn’t work hard in normal times. Before exam three or four days, he would like to study without sleep. He always gets a good score, but I think this way is not for everyone.
One girl told she doesn’t study after finish class; she just studies hard in the class. After class she usually watches and plays computer games. I think this way is better for study.
